Volunteer opportunity terms
These terms explain how Scanner Alerts Media Group LLC describes and administers its volunteer opportunities. They are not a promise of acceptance, an employment contract, or a waiver of rights provided by law.
Optional, unpaid participation—not employment
SAMG is a for-profit limited liability company that describes this program as optional, unpaid volunteer participation in a hobby-based public-safety news operation. No wages, salary, employee benefits, commissions, guaranteed assignments, ownership interest, or promise of future paid work are offered through this application or training program.
Participation is voluntary. There are no required weekly hours and no deadline for completing training. An applicant or approved volunteer may pause, decline an assignment, or stop participating. SAMG may also change or end a volunteer assignment or access. No statement in these terms determines a person’s legal status or waives a right available under applicable law.
Application, training, and approval
Training is self-paced. Completed lessons and assessments are saved so an applicant may return later using the private link sent to their email. Course completion and a certificate show training completion only. They do not grant acceptance, a dispatcher number, system access, a press credential, permission to represent SAMG, or authority to publish.
Every operation, role, page, region, feed, system, tier, and permission requires a separate administrator decision. Administrator access is by invitation only. Approved operational volunteers begin a 90-day probationary period. Tier progression also requires the applicable training, minimum time, performance review, and administrator approval.
Standards and access
Approved volunteers must follow the current assignment, editorial, privacy, safety, security, and correction standards. Access is limited to the approved purpose and may not be shared. Visibility of a page, feed, incident, or feature does not expand authorization.
Age and records
The online application is for people who are at least 18 years old. A person under 18 should contact SAMG administration before applying so any separate parental-consent and role-suitability review can occur.
